After Elon Musk's tweet advising his followers to use the privacy-focused messaging app, Signal has seen a huge jump in the numbers of new sign-ups. Elon Musk tweeted this in the wake of concerns about WhatsApp's new privacy policy which states that it would share user data with Facebook, WhatsApp's parent company.
People all across the globe are concerned about the new privacy policy and this is the reason that people are now switching to other messaging apps. And this rise in new sign-ups to Signal was so big that verification codes with few network providers were getting delayed. Musk twisted on Thursday advising people to 'Use Signal' and this advice from the world's richest man brought Signal new sign-ups.
Signal took to Twitter to confirm the fact that it is getting many new requests for new join-ins. The glitch was soon fixed and users should now be able to register without any hiccups.

This comes at an opportune time for Signal, as WhatsApp is surrounded by a privacy controversy after it has started notifying users to agree to new terms and policies. The privacy policy suggested that data sharing with Facebook will become mandatory, but WhatsApp has now clarified that this new privacy policy change is addressed only to business accounts and will remain unchanged for consumers.
Apart from Elon Musk, Edward Snowden also recommended Signal. Replying to a user who asked why they should trust Signal, Edward Snowden said,

Apart from Signal, a lot of users are joining Telegram as well. Like Signal, Telegram also sends users a notification when their contacts join the platform, and after WhatsApp's new privacy policy and the ultimatum that people won't be able to use the Service after February 8, a lot of Telegram users have been bombarded with such new user notifications.
